D5 Launches “Take 5” Campaign to Empower Champions to Advance DEI

Posted on

Today, D5 is launching the Take 5 Campaign, an initiative to empower champions of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and inspire foundations to take action. The campaign capitalizes on our most valuable resource—people—by helping them engage others in promoting and advancing DEI.

Take5

The Take 5 Campaign mobilizes champions of DEI to build support for the movement among peers within their own foundations as well as colleagues in other foundations.  Our goal: by 2015, 100 champions will pledge to take 5 actions—500 actions in total—to help advance DEI in the field of philanthropy.

Ambitious? Yes. Achievable? Absolutely.

By helping champions extend the DEI conversation, we will reach new audiences supportive of advancing DEI, but who might just not know how to go about doing it.

Throughout the campaign, D5 will provide guidance and ideas to help Take 5 champions start conversations about the benefits that diversity, equity, and inclusion bring to an organization, and take action to advance DEI. Rather than have champions direct their friends and colleagues to D5, the Take 5 Campaign is about enabling Champions to advance the DEI conversation themselves.

Take 5 will offer suggestions of specific actions organizations can take to advance DEI, whether it’s improving DEI data collection, making DEI an explicit part of an organization’s recruitment process, or providing a grant to an organization working to support DEI. A menu of the actions that count toward our campaign goal is available here.

The wonderful thing about the campaign is that anyone can be a Take 5 Champion, whether they are a foundation CEO or a staff member of a regional association—all they need to do is be committed to advancing DEI.

Visit the Take 5 page of the D5 website for more information about how to become part of the campaign.
